Below is a copy of an email I have received from officer's at Portsmouth City Council, after I raised the concerns of residents about the speeding problems on their roads.
"Dear Councillor Thompson,
Thank you for your email regarding the speeding issues along Doyle Avenue. As per your request I have added Doyle Avenue to the request list for a new traffic survey and for the deployment of a mobile Vehicle Activated Sign for a period of time. Due to staffing cuts there is a back log for traffic surveys but I have put Doyle Avenue as high importance so hopefully it will be carried out in the near future. Once I have the results I will pass them onto you.
If the results from the survey show cause for concern I will request for Doyle Avenue to be included in the next Education & Enforcement programme. Once a couple of these days have been carried out I will arrange for a new survey to be carried out to see if the E&E days have reduced traffic speed. If the results are still too high then I will produce a report stating that I believe traffic calming measures need to be considered along the road which will go to the Local Transport Plan board to see if funding can be made available.
This is the same process that Kirby Road went through and funding was made available for this years budget. I am now in a position where I can send out letters to the residents of Kirby Road and the surrounding roads that maybe affected inviting them to a consultation event where they can view our proposals and make any comments. I will provide you the details once I have confirmed the location hall and time of the meeting. I will invite you and the other ward Councillors along to the event although I am more than happy to send you the plans before hand if you would find it beneficial. Alternatively I would also be happy to meet separately to discuss the proposals for Kirby Road."
I have requested additional surveys on other road in Hilsea and once these have been confirmed I will report back.
